en.Wedoany.com Reported - Wood Thilsted and COP Frontier have co-founded Neretek, a next-generation offshore wind foundation company, launching its proprietary BC90 technology designed to cost-effectively develop deep-water offshore wind at water depths of 60 to 90 meters.

Neretek's Neretek BC90TM foundation combines the simplicity of monopile foundations with deep-water capabilities, enabling cost-effective deployment at transitional water depths of 60 to 90 meters, thereby unlocking wind energy development in the UK's emerging Other Deep Offshore Wind (ODOW) category. The company states that BC90 is the most cost-effective solution for deep-water deployment, with significantly lower capital expenditure at depths of 60 to 90 meters compared to deep-water monopiles or jacket foundations.

Jonathan Cole, former Chairman of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), has been appointed as Executive Chairman. He noted that Neretek's BC90 technology bridges the gap between existing fixed offshore wind designs and floating offshore wind, which has yet to be commercialized, enabling the industry to maintain momentum in delivering clean, affordable, and secure energy supply.

Neretek's establishment comes at a critical juncture for the offshore wind industry. On July 6, the UK government announced Allocation Round 8 (AR8), aiming to develop the country's offshore wind potential at water depths of 60 to 90 meters. Currently, most of the UK's strongest wind resources are located in deeper waters beyond the reach of fixed foundations, with previous projects considered only as floating offshore wind candidates. However, cost and industrialization challenges have made large-scale near-term deployment difficult.

Neretek's BC90 foundation combines proven technologies, utilizing existing local supply chains for manufacturing and relying on existing port infrastructure without the need for large specialized vessels. Developed in the UK, this solution is expected to be applicable in deeper and more challenging environments in Europe and Southeast Asia.

Alastair Muir Wood, Founder and CEO of Wood Thilsted, stated that through rigorous research and development, the team has provided a market-first, economically viable solution for fixed structures at water depths of 60 to 90 meters, achieving a deployable deep-water wind power solution using existing supply chains and materials. Alan Hannah, Chief Operating Officer of COP Frontier, noted that BC90 technology directly addresses the industry's most pressing cost and development challenges, with the potential to improve project feasibility, accelerate deployment, and enhance the long-term competitiveness of offshore wind.
