en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Balearic Islands Port Authority (Autoridad Portuaria de Baleares) has selected five multidisciplinary teams to draft preliminary proposals for the Palma Port-City Integration Master Plan (Plan Maestro de integración puerto-ciudad del puerto de Palma).
The five selected teams include the Typsa Zha BBARQ Temporary Business Consortium, the UTE Arup Bir Junquera, the Sener West 8 Project L35 Etipsa Temporary Business Consortium, IDOM, and the UTE Bau Mangado-Goc Proyeco.
This selection marks a new phase in the international competition, the outcome of which will determine the development landscape of the main port of the Balearic Islands (Illes Balears) for decades to come.
According to the Port Authority, the five candidate teams bring together internationally renowned firms in architecture, engineering, urban planning, and landscape design, which have participated in several representative urban and port redevelopment projects in recent years.
The selection process began with a public tender, receiving 13 candidate proposals from a total of 41 companies, originating from Spain, the United Kingdom, Denmark, the Netherlands, and the United States, involving over 250 professionals.
After analyzing technical, economic, and financial capabilities, the Port Authority selected the five highest-scoring teams to advance to the next stage.
The selected teams will have four months to develop a preliminary technical and economic proposal outlining the future transformation direction of the Port of Palma.
These proposals must provide a comprehensive vision addressing challenges such as mobility, sustainability, urban integration, landscape quality, and the coexistence of port activities with new public spaces.
The goal is to complete five preliminary proposals by November, which will then be evaluated by an independent expert committee to select the winning proposal.
The winning proposal will be announced by the end of the year and will serve as the basis for drafting the final master plan, establishing a roadmap for the overall transformation of the Port of Palma.
