Concrete works begin on 430-meter MSC terminal at Port of Aarhus, Denmark
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 3, the Port of Aarhus in Denmark confirmed that the first concrete pour has commenced for the 430-meter new quay line at the Omniterminal, with current works focused on the capping beam at the top of the quay front. Sand filling in the port area is largely complete, and the hundreds of concrete piles supporting the future crane rails are nearing completion. The new quay line is expected to be finished between late 2026 and early 2027.

The project is being undertaken by MT Højgaard Danmark under a contract valued at DKK 191 million. Site works began in September 2025. The new quay line is designed to a water depth of 14 meters and, upon completion, will add approximately 180,000 square meters of terminal land area to Omniterminal, with provisions reserved for shore power installations for container vessels.
The quay employs a two-tier anchoring system. The contractor is working from barges and self-elevating platforms, driving 31-meter-long steel sheet piles into the seabed and connecting the quay front wall to the anchor wall with 50-meter-long tie rods. The land reclamation design calls for approximately 340,000 cubic meters of sand, of which 240,000 cubic meters comes from marine dredging. Around 700 concrete piles will form the foundation for two cast-in-place crane rail beams, with a reinforced concrete capping beam running the full length of the quay.
The Port of Aarhus has reached lease arrangements with Mediterranean Shipping Group and its terminal operator, Terminal Investment Limited (TiL), which intends to lease approximately 170,000 square meters to build and operate a container terminal. The port authority had previously outlined a plan to complete terminal development by 2027.
Environmental assessment materials published by the City of Aarhus in 2026 designate the proposed container terminal area as approximately 18 hectares with 860 meters of usable quay length, and an estimated maximum annual handling capacity of around 800,000 TEUs. The construction and operation of the terminal require completion of an environmental impact assessment and the permits required under Section 25 of the Danish Environmental Assessment Act. According to municipal documents, terminal construction is expected to take approximately two years once the necessary permits are obtained.
