en.Wedoany.com Reported - Allnex has announced the construction of its first sag control agent (SCA) production plant in Rayong Province, Thailand, to expand its manufacturing footprint in the Asia-Pacific region. The plant is scheduled to commence production in January 2028 and will be equipped with dedicated reactors for producing SCA resins, a key component in automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) coatings that enables high-gloss clearcoats on car bodies and plastic parts to achieve an excellent appearance. This investment aims to strengthen the regional supply chain and support the growing demand in the Asia-Pacific automotive coatings market.

SCA is a cornerstone of Allnex's automotive product portfolio, with production having been carried out exclusively in Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands, for over 40 years. As automotive production volumes increase and appearance requirements become more stringent in the Asia-Pacific region, it has become the largest SCA market. The new plant will address the need for local supply, shorter lead times, and improved customer responsiveness. Ruben Mannien, Senior Executive Vice President of Allnex Asia-Pacific, stated that by localizing SCA production in Thailand, the company is directly responding to customer demands for supply security, delivery times, and innovation, which will help meet future market needs and support growth ambitions in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Rayong plant will also serve as a hub for Allnex's latest SCA innovations, including next-generation high-solids, low-temperature baking, and sustainable "green SCA" solutions. These technologies are designed to increase productivity, reduce energy consumption, and help coatings manufacturers stand out in a competitive market. After a comprehensive evaluation of multiple potential sites in the Asia-Pacific region, Allnex decided to locate the plant in Thailand. Rayong was selected due to its existing infrastructure, technical expertise, and proximity to major automotive manufacturing hubs such as China, India, South Korea, and Southeast Asia. The plant is expected to be completed by the end of 2027 to ensure readiness for anticipated market growth.
