en.Wedoany.com Reported - On its 136th anniversary, Boa Vista announced progress in basic sanitation, with water supply coverage reaching 96.97%, surpassing the national average in Brazil. Through investments by the Roraima Water Company (Caer), under the state government of Roraima, the city has joined the ranks of the best-performing state capitals in this sector in Brazil.

Boa Vista celebrates 136 years with progress in water supply and sewage treatment

Over the past seven years, Caer has executed the largest sanitation investment in the northern region, aimed at increasing water production capacity and expanding water supply and sewage collection networks. Governor Soldado Sampaio stated that investing in sanitation directly improves the quality of life for the population.

Key projects include water tanks in the Vila Jardim residential area, the Storage and Distribution Center (CRD) in Cidade Satélite, the renovation of the Pintolândia service station, and the modernization of storage and distribution centers in neighborhoods such as Caranã, Pintolândia, Cidade Satélite, and São Vicente, which supply 35 neighborhoods. Boa Vista currently has 111 operational wells, supplying approximately 70% of water distribution, and combined with the output of the Water Treatment Plant (ETA), the total capacity reaches 1,800 liters per second, serving over 110,000 active connection points. Additionally, storage and distribution centers in the Pedra Pintada and João de Barro neighborhoods have been delivered, with investments exceeding 30 million reais, including the construction of reservoirs, approximately 65 kilometers of distribution pipelines, and 7,800 residential connections, benefiting around 29,000 residents. Between 2019 and 2026, Caer laid over 111,000 meters of distribution pipelines to supply expanding neighborhoods such as Senador Hélio Campos, Vida Nova, Jardim das Copaíbas, and Unicarvão.

In terms of sewage treatment, these investments have moved the city up to 41st place in the 2026 sanitation ranking by the Trata Brasil Institute (an improvement of six positions from the previous ranking), with a sewage treatment rate of 107.90%. The system includes 43 pumping stations, a stabilization pond, approximately 45,000 inspection wells, over 1 million meters of collection pipelines, serving more than 79,000 properties.

Cícero Batista, Acting President of Caer, stated that these results reflect the state government's investments in system automation, modernization of pumping stations, equipment procurement, and pipeline expansion. The company is also reducing distribution losses by installing water meters, replacing old pipelines, and combating illegal connections.
