China Road and Bridge Corporation Successfully Wins Bid for Cambodia Rural Water Supply Project Phase III

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 23, China Road and Bridge Corporation officially signed the EPC general contracting agreement for the Cambodia Rural Water Supply Project Phase III with Cambodia's Ministry of Rural Development. The project is funded through a grant from the Chinese government and will be implemented under a localized delivery model.

The project covers eight provinces in Cambodia—Siem Reap, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, and Kratie—with main works comprising 1,174 boreholes, 24 ponds, and 8 supporting water treatment rooms, over a construction period of 24 months. China Road and Bridge Corporation received the letter of acceptance for this project on August 4, 2026.

The Cambodia Rural Water Supply Project is a livelihood assistance initiative implemented by China in Cambodia. Phase I commenced in 2017 as one of the first localization projects undertaken by the Chinese government in Cambodia, constructing over 1,800 deep wells and nearly 130 community ponds across 16 provinces. Phase II broke ground in November 2019 and was handed over and put into operation in December 2021, building 54 ponds and 964 tube wells across 10 provinces.

Access to clean water remains a critical challenge in rural Cambodia, where 58% of the rural population currently lacks safe water supply and over 84% of rural communities lack basic sanitation facilities. The Cambodian government has set a target to achieve 100% coverage of rural water supply and sanitation by 2030. The implementation of this project will further improve clean water availability in northern Cambodia.

China Road and Bridge Corporation established its office in Cambodia in 2001 and has undertaken a cumulative total of 28 projects over 23 years. The company stated that it will focus on project delivery in the next phase to ensure the works are completed on schedule and to a high quality.
