en.Wedoany.com Reported - The World Trade Bridge expansion project increases cargo capacity between Mexico and the United States from 8 lanes to 18 lanes. Specific plans include expanding the existing bridge from 8 to 10 lanes and constructing a second bridge with 8 dedicated lanes for freight vehicles heading to the United States. The project aims to enhance the logistics competitiveness of Nuevo Laredo and accelerate cross-border trade along North America's major corridor.

Pedro Lozano, President of the Nuevo Laredo Freight Carriers Association (ATC), noted that the expansion will reduce waiting times, lower fuel consumption, and improve logistics operational efficiency—factors that will directly impact costs for exporters, importers, and transportation companies.
Lozano emphasized that greater capacity benefits supply chain continuity for industries such as automotive, aerospace, electronics, and perishable products, which rely on synchronized production and delivery models to supply the North American market.
He stated that the expansion coincides with growth in manufacturing investments related to nearshoring, a phenomenon that has increased demand for logistics and customs infrastructure along the country's northern border.
The project also complements regional initiatives such as the new headquarters of Mexico's National Customs Agency (ANAM), customs technology modernization, and road connectivity projects—actions aimed at consolidating Nuevo Laredo's position as the primary land trade gateway between Mexico and the United States.
For the Freight Carriers Association, the World Trade Bridge expansion is a strategic investment that helps enhance the region's logistics competitiveness, drive economic activity, and address the growth in bilateral trade in the coming years.
