en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) informed the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology on Monday that there are currently 449 active 5G base station sites across the country, covering 22 cities.

PTA Chairman Amir Shehzad told the committee that the regulator collects data from telecom operators every 24 hours to monitor network performance and identify which telecom towers are down.
PTA Member Sadiq Memon stated that Karachi currently has 50 active 5G sites, while Hyderabad has only three. He warned that at the current deployment pace, nationwide 5G rollout may not be completed until 2035, by which time the technology could become obsolete.
Minister of State for Information Technology Shaza Fatima said telecom companies have committed to launching 5G services in five cities within the first year, emphasizing that Karachi, Pakistan's largest city, should receive more attention.
Committee Chairman Syed Amin Ul Haque urged operators to install more 5G base stations in Karachi. Meanwhile, the PTA Chairman noted that telecom companies are exporting 5G equipment while expanding domestic infrastructure.
