en.Wedoany.com Reported - The NEXUS International Conference – Digital and Green Transition in Maritime Ports: Trends and Challenges, jointly organized by the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (IPS) and the Ports of Setúbal and Algarve Administration (APS), was held on June 24-25 at the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal. The conference focused on core topics such as digitalization, cybersecurity, data-driven governance, and decarbonization, bringing together representatives from port authorities, research institutions, enterprises, and international experts to discuss the main challenges in the transformation of ports and logistics chains.

Ports have evolved into highly digitalized and interconnected logistics platforms, crucial for the competitiveness of supply chains. Jointly organized by IPS and APS, this conference is part of the NEXUS Mobilization Agenda funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), serving as an extension of the meeting held in Sines on June 22-23. With an international scope, the conference aims to foster connections among academia, industry, and public policymakers, accelerating knowledge transfer and the adoption of innovative solutions in transport, logistics, and mobility.
Discussions focused on areas such as infrastructure resilience, risk management, cybersecurity, digitalization of logistics processes, and information system integration. Data sharing and interoperability between different platforms, including Port Community Systems, were identified as key elements for improving operational efficiency and coordinating various stakeholders in the logistics chain. The conference also emphasized the need for collaborative governance models to balance technological innovation, environmental sustainability, and operational performance. Additionally, the application prospects of emerging technologies such as drones and the U-Space concept were explored.
The second day of the conference highlighted the role of applied research and international cooperation. Parallel sessions covered topics including sustainable logistics, smart mobility, digitalization, artificial intelligence, port automation, and energy transition, showcasing progress made by the scientific community in developing solutions for the maritime port sector. A dedicated session reviewed the progress of the NEXUS Agenda, summarizing achievements and discussing future directions for collaboration. The NEXUS Agenda is one of the mobilization agendas funded by the PRR, aiming to develop an ecosystem consisting of 31 products and services, centered on an open data collaboration platform, supplemented by joint applications and digital twins, to enhance logistics and port operational efficiency.
