en.Wedoany.com Reported - DB InfraGO has initiated the renewal of the Rhine right bank railway line between Troisdorf and Wiesbaden. German railway (DB) has consolidated planned works spread over several years into a single five-month closure period to reduce repeated disruptions on the line.
The project covers one of the main railway corridors in the German Rhine Valley, serving regional, long-distance, and freight trains. It will renew over 80 kilometers of track and 159 sets of points. DB InfraGO is also adding 13 new crossover connections (including 26 sets of points) along the line to enable more flexible train operations after services resume.
In signaling, six locations—Rüdesheim, Niederlahnstein, Koblenz-Ehrenbreitstein, Engers, Neuwied, and Bonn-Beuel—will have old equipment replaced with electronic interlocking technology. The eleven existing electronic interlockings along the corridor will also be adapted. ETCS equipment will be installed on the corridor, with DB planning to install approximately 5,000 balises, alongside simultaneous signaling and level crossing technical work.

Overhead line works cover 99 kilometers of track, including new equipment in areas with added crossover connections. DB is also equipping or renewing 37 point heating systems. Station works encompass 36 stations along the line, each to be fitted with passenger information systems, platform canopies, waiting shelters, guidance systems, lighting, underpasses, ramps, and elevators as needed.
DB InfraGO will also renew 13 level crossings with new lighting and barrier systems. Locations include Wiesbaden-Biebrich, Rüdesheim, Lorchhausen, St. Goarshausen, Lahnstein, Koblenz-Horchheim, Neuwied-Engers, and Assmannshausen.
Civil engineering works cover the renewal or renovation of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and rockfall protection facilities. This includes eight bridge renewals, five bridge renovations, two culvert renovations, eight new retaining walls, seventeen retaining wall renovations, and seven rockfall protection measures.
Noise reduction is part of the project. DB plans to complete 13 kilometers of noise barriers on the right bank between Eltville and Koblenz under the Middle Rhine Valley noise reduction plan, plus an additional 4.7 kilometers north of Koblenz. Combined with confirmed works, 19 kilometers of new noise barriers are planned between Unkel and Eltville by the end of 2026.
Construction logistics are divided into five sections. DB aims to transport 212,000 tonnes of ballast and approximately 60,000 sleepers by rail as much as possible, but road transport will still be needed due to local terrain constraints in the Middle Rhine Valley.

During the closure, freight trains will be diverted via multiple routes, including the Rhine left bank line between Cologne and Mainz, the Moselle route via Koblenz and Wittlich, the subsequent route via Saarbrücken and Kaiserslautern to Mannheim, and the eastern diversion route via Gießen, Hanau, Frankfurt, Aschaffenburg, and Darmstadt. Regional passenger services will be adjusted or suspended: RE8 and RB27 will terminate at Troisdorf, then be adjusted to Köln Messe/Deutz; RB10 will operate between Frankfurt and Wiesbaden; RE9 between Frankfurt and Eltville will be suspended. DB will operate replacement buses, including express bus services between Wiesbaden, Rüdesheim, and Koblenz, as well as between Koblenz, Bad Honnef, Bonn-Ramersdorf, and Troisdorf.
