en.Wedoany.com Reported - Brighton & Hove City Council, in partnership with Wates Residential, is progressing the Moulsecoomb housing and community centre project, which will deliver 222 new council homes, a new community centre, and improved public spaces.
The project has reached a key construction milestone, with concrete frame work underway on the first residential block. The development includes eight residential blocks and eight townhouses, creating three new streets as part of the wider Brighton North regeneration.
The first residential block is expected to be completed by March 2028, with the new community centre scheduled to open in September 2028. The entire development is anticipated to be finished by the end of 2028. The community centre will house a range of local services, including a library, pharmacy, GP surgery, youth facilities, adult education facilities, and a community café. The broader regeneration project will also include a skate park, a 3G football pitch, and improved public spaces.
Construction activity is progressing across the site, with piling, earthworks, and demolition ongoing, including the removal of the 67 Centre and Good News Centre buildings. The project is part of Brighton & Hove City Council's wider housing and regeneration programme and was shaped through consultation with local residents, with over 200 people participating in engagement activities that helped define the housing development and associated community facilities design.
According to the project team, the scheme has so far created 43 local jobs and provided 11 work experience placements. Wates has also partnered with local organisations, including the 67 Centre, to support initiatives benefiting the wider Moulsecoomb community.
