en.Wedoany.com Reported - Two roll-on/roll-off passenger ferries operated by TT LINE—Spirit of Tasmania IV and Spirit of Tasmania V—are swapping berthing positions as final preparations are made for their entry into Bass Strait service by the end of October.
Spirit of Tasmania V is currently returning to Geelong from Hobart, where it spent five weeks completing final outfitting and serving as a venue for the local Dark MoFo festival. Tasmania Premier Jeremy Rockliff stated on social media that over 80,000 visitors boarded the vessel during the festival, and approximately 100 contractors were involved in the outfitting work.
Spirit of Tasmania V is scheduled to conduct berthing trials tonight at TT LINE's terminal in Geelong, following the departure of Spirit of Tasmania I on its regular service to Devonport.
Meanwhile, Spirit of Tasmania IV was moved today (July 15) from its berth at Nelson Pier in Williamstown to the Outer East Berth at the Port of Melbourne for continued mooring. The vessel had previously undergone hull reinforcement work at Nelson Pier.
As planned, Spirit of Tasmania V will relocate from Geelong to Nelson Pier tomorrow morning for the same structural work.
Next month, Spirit of Tasmania IV will sail to Devonport for berthing trials at the new TT LINE terminal at the unfinished Berth 3, to test the vessel's compatibility with the three-tier vehicle loading ramp.
The Tasmanian government and relevant contractors remain confident that the terminal will be ready by the end of October to welcome the new vessels into service.
