en.Wedoany.com Reported - The newly built vehicle underpass in Locate Varesino, Lombardy, has recently been inaugurated, a project aimed at improving traffic conditions in the Como and lower Varese areas.
Attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony were Fnm Chairman Andrea Gibelli, Fnm CEO Fulvio Caradonna, Ferrovienord Chairman Pier Antonio Rossetti, and Mayor of Locate Varesino Luca Castiglioni.
Lombardy President Fontana stated that these works represent concrete interventions capable of improving local traffic, benefiting residents, workers, and businesses in neighboring towns. These infrastructures are supported by the regional railway network managed by Ferrovienord and built using resources from program contracts. The goal is to make transportation more efficient through continued investment, eliminating bottlenecks that cause congestion and slow traffic. Reducing queues not only means faster and safer travel but also significantly contributes to reducing pollution.
Councilor Fermi noted that the new underpass restores traffic continuity, making it easier to connect the two parts of Locate Varesino and improving access to the train station, schools, and key services. Beneficiaries include commuters who drive daily for work or school, as well as businesses relying on smoother roads. This intervention stems from listening to local needs and collaboration between the Lombardy Region, Ferrovienord, and local administrations.
The works include the construction of a new vehicle underpass near the Locate Varesino-Carbonate train station, complete with access ramps and a protected bicycle-pedestrian path on dedicated lanes. It also involves new roads connecting the underpass to via Piave and via Marconi, a steel-concrete bicycle-pedestrian bridge over the Gradaluso stream, a new parking lot replacing spaces along via Trento e Trieste, and renovations to the parking area in front of the Locate Varesino cemetery, including resurfacing of vehicle lanes and lighting improvements.
The project will continue with the second phase, which plans to build a pedestrian bridge with an elevator on via Mazzini. The new infrastructure will also eliminate the railway crossing at that location, making pedestrian crossings safer and more convenient, thereby completing the area's transformation. The Lombardy Region has allocated an additional €2 million for the second phase.
