en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Peru (Ministerio de Transportes y Comunicaciones, MTC) officially signed a project delegation agreement on July 15, 2026, with the Northern Mountain Concession Company (Concesionaria Vial Sierra Norte S.A.), authorizing it to restart the rehabilitation and improvement works on two sub-sections of the "Longitudinal de la Sierra Tramo 2": Chiple-Cutervo and Cutervo-Cochabamba. This resumption will complete the remaining 33.814 kilometers of construction tasks for this section. Upon completion, the project will benefit over 3.6 million residents in northern and central Peru.

The Longitudinal de la Sierra Highway is a vital transportation corridor running north-south through Peru's Andes Mountains. The works to be resumed include pavement rehabilitation and improvement, bridge construction, drainage system installation, and earthworks, all aimed at enhancing the overall service level and traffic capacity of this section. The project has an approved final engineering design and corresponding budget, and the construction land has been secured, ensuring smooth progress in accordance with contractual requirements.
The signing of this agreement marks the official restart of the highway project after a period of stagnation. The remaining section to be built totals 33.814 kilometers, representing a significant portion of the 90.09-kilometer total length stipulated in the concession contract. Once completed, the project will further improve the transportation network in Peru's mountainous regions, enhance local residents' travel conditions, and promote economic and social development along the route. The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Peru stated that it will strictly adhere to the concession contract provisions to ensure the project is completed on schedule and with high quality.
