en.Wedoany.com Reported - The solar-storage off-grid project in Cyprus, involving Chint Power, has been officially put into operation. The project has an installed capacity of 2.4MW of photovoltaic (PV) power paired with a 1.2MW/5MWh energy storage system, with all generated electricity used for the client's copper smelting plant production.

The copper smelting process requires extremely high power continuity. The enterprise has long relied on the external grid, facing high energy costs and concerns over supply stability. By coordinating PV power generation, energy storage regulation, and production load scheduling, the project establishes an energy system independent of the public grid. This not only enhances the enterprise's energy self-sufficiency but also explores a viable path for low-carbon transformation in island-based industries.

Local electricity in Cyprus primarily relies on imported fossil fuels for power generation, resulting in persistently high electricity prices. This project adopts Chint Power's "Solar-Storage Generator" solution, leveraging the synergy between PV and storage to achieve self-consumption of green electricity and storage of surplus power, significantly reducing purchased electricity and helping the copper smelting plant lower long-term power costs.

Copper smelting involves high loads and continuous processes; a sudden power outage can easily lead to production halts and substantial economic losses. Chint Power's "Solar-Storage Generator" integrates grid-forming energy storage PCS, a cluster-independent management architecture, and a 350kW high-efficiency inverter. It can continuously provide power support to loads during grid anomalies, enhancing power supply reliability and ensuring uninterrupted production.

This solution adopts a low-voltage coupling architecture, where PV and storage are connected to the same low-voltage AC side for unified dispatch and coordinated energy supply. Compared to traditional solutions, low-voltage coupling eliminates the need for step-up equipment and redundant electrical configurations, simplifying system design, construction, and commissioning, thereby reducing initial investment and footprint. Additionally, shorter power conversion chains minimize energy losses and improve green electricity utilization efficiency.

To address Cyprus's high temperature, high humidity, and salt spray environment, the 350kW inverter features an IP66 protection rating, and the energy storage cabin is equipped with temperature control, fire protection, and thermal runaway prevention systems, enabling long-term outdoor operation on the island. The battery adopts a cluster-level management design, facilitating maintenance and reducing the impact of local faults on the system, thereby lowering routine inspection and operational costs.

Based on the project's current operational performance, preliminary estimates suggest that the investment can be recovered within 1 to 2 years. The client has recognized the cost reduction, efficiency improvement, and stable power supply, and has expressed intent to continue purchasing equipment to cover more production scenarios at the copper smelting plant.

The implementation of this solar-storage off-grid project not only provides the client with an economical and stable clean energy solution but also offers a replicable example for the green transformation of energy-intensive industries in island and weak-grid regions.

Chint Power stated that it will continue to drive the deep integration of clean energy and industrial production through solar-storage technology innovation, creating more reliable, economical, and sustainable energy value for global customers.
