en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 16, 2026, BASF inaugurated a new plant in Düsseldorf, Germany, for the production of specialty emollients, primarily targeting skincare and sunscreen products. This investment of tens of millions of euros aims to expand its specialty product capacity to meet growing market demand.

Numerous customers, political representatives, officials from the Düsseldorf city government, and industry association representatives joined BASF management to celebrate the project's completion. Agus Ciputra, Global Head of BASF's Personal Care business, stated that the new plant is not just an investment in production, but also in expertise and in helping customers launch differentiated products. By expanding capacity for specialty emollients based on renewable raw materials, BASF is laying the foundation for innovation in personal care solutions to address consumer expectations for performance, formulation flexibility, and sustainability.

Sven Crone, Global Head of Production for BASF's Care Chemicals division, noted that this investment is significant for the plant, reflecting the determination to ensure competitiveness. From planning and regulatory approvals to construction, the team overcame numerous challenges, bringing the plant into operation in just two years. Emollients bind moisture to the skin, help lock in hydration, and improve the sensory properties of personal care products. BASF's Düsseldorf production site, which focuses on ingredients for the cosmetics and personal care industry, already boasts the most comprehensive emollient portfolio, and this expansion further solidifies its position. Düsseldorf is BASF's third-largest production site in Europe and the world's largest production and R&D base for cosmetic ingredients.
BASF's Care Chemicals division provides ingredients for personal care, home care, industrial and institutional cleaning, and technical applications, serving as a leading supplier to the global cosmetics, detergent, and cleaning product industries. The division's portfolio includes surfactants, emulsifiers, polymers, emollients, chelating agents, cosmetic active ingredients, and UV filters, with production and development sites located across all regions worldwide.
