en.Wedoany.com Reported - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) San Francisco District announced on July 17, 2026, that it has awarded a fixed-price contract worth $12.9 million to Manson Construction Co., headquartered in Seattle, Washington, for the Fiscal Year 2026 maintenance dredging project of the Oakland Inner and Outer Harbors. The project aims to remove years of accumulated sediment from the harbor's navigation channels and berthing areas, restore design depths, and ensure safe navigation for large container ships and bulk carriers.
Founded in 1905, Manson Construction Co. initially engaged in small-scale pile driving to support Seattle's waterfront development. Over more than a century, the company has grown into one of the most respected marine and heavy civil engineering contractors in the United States. As a 100% employee-owned Jones Act company, Manson operates a large fleet of over 60 specialized vessels and more than 50 barges, offering services in dredging, marine construction, bridge building, heavy lifting, and offshore operations. In 2025, the company's revenue reached $500 million. It has a long-standing partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and has previously secured multiple dredging contracts.

The dredging project is located at the Port of Oakland, California. The Port of Oakland is the fourth-largest container port on the U.S. West Coast, handling an annual throughput of over 2.2 million TEUs. It serves as a critical gateway for U.S. agricultural products and refrigerated cargo exports, with an import-to-export ratio of nearly 1:1, a unique feature among major U.S. ports. Port activities directly or indirectly support approximately 200,000 jobs in the city of Oakland. According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the contract amount of $12,909,775 is funded from Fiscal Year 2026 civil works appropriations and was fully obligated at the time of award. The bidding process was conducted via the internet, with two bids received. The project is expected to be completed by January 12, 2027.
As a key logistics hub on the U.S. West Coast, the navigational depth of the Port of Oakland's channels directly impacts the export efficiency of agricultural and manufactured products from California's Central Valley. The implementation of this dredging project will effectively remove long-accumulated sediment in the harbor, restore design depths for channels and berths, and provide safe navigation conditions for vessels entering and leaving the port. Leveraging its extensive experience and expertise in marine dredging, Manson Construction Co. will be responsible for the project's execution. The award of this contract also reflects the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' continued commitment to maintaining critical national waterborne infrastructure.
