en.Wedoany.com Reported - A large luxury Ro-Pax ferry with 950 passenger capacity and 2,700 lane meters for the China-South Korea route recently commenced construction at Huanghai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. Hengtuo Marine, a subsidiary of Shanghai Marine Equipment Research Institute (S MERI) under China State Shipbuilding Corporation, has specially developed a new generation of high-efficiency retractable stabilizer fins incorporating an innovative flapped fin design for this project. This equipment will enhance the safety, stability, and passenger comfort of the vessel. To date, all stabilizer fins for the 16 large luxury Ro-Pax ferries (including 4 under construction) built by Chinese shipyards for the China-South Korea route have been supplied by Hengtuo Marine.
Based on years of project experience serving the China-South Korea route and over 60 years of expertise in attitude control technology, Hengtuo Marine has customized a dedicated stabilization solution tailored to the large-scale, green, and comfort-oriented operational demands of the vessel, taking into account the wind and wave conditions of the route and the ship's loading characteristics. The successfully developed new-generation high-efficiency retractable stabilizer fins, with a single fin area of 12 square meters, feature an innovative airfoil design fully independently developed in China, achieving a stabilization efficiency of over 85% at design draft and rated service speed. This product effectively reduces hull rolling caused by wind and waves at sea, enhances the vessel's safety factor in adverse sea conditions, lowers the risk of hull capsizing and cargo shifting in heavy winds and waves, and improves passenger comfort by alleviating seasickness. The fins adopt a retractable structure, extending to provide stabilizing lift during navigation and retracting into the fin box on the ship's side during smooth sailing to reduce drag, balancing energy efficiency and equipment protection. The vessel has an overall length of 199.9 meters, a beam of 29.4 meters, a design service speed of 22 knots, and can carry hundreds of vehicles, accommodate 950 passengers, and transport 410 TEU containers. It is the first intelligent Ro-Pax ferry on the China-South Korea route equipped with a three-dimensional sun-tracking photovoltaic system and reserved space for methanol fuel conversion, meeting the stringent environmental indicators of IMO EEDI Phase III. Upon completion, it will be deployed on the route from Lianyungang, China, to Pyeongtaek, South Korea.

In the luxury Ro-Pax ferry market, Hengtuo Marine's stabilizer fin series have been exported to Japan, South Korea, and Europe. Last November, Hengtuo Marine signed a contract with Italy's Grimaldi Group for stabilizer fins for nine luxury Ro-Pax ferries, setting a new record for the largest single order of stabilizer fins from overseas by a Chinese shipyard. Currently, its products hold over 80% of the domestic market share in China and have been included in the "Shipbuilding Industry Strong Chain Brand Product Catalog (2024)".
