Construction has begun on a 600-acre manufacturing campus with 8 million square feet of building space in Greensboro, North Carolina. The facility is equivalent to approximately 140 football fields. California-based JetZero announced a $4.7 billion investment in the production facility in 2024, which the company says could create over 14,500 jobs. The plant was co-designed with Siemens' smart infrastructure, electrification, and automation divisions, utilizing digital and industrial AI tools. According to JetZero, this represents the largest economic development project in North Carolina's history.
EDF, the world's largest nuclear power operator, and Holtec International have submitted plans to the UK government to develop small modular reactors (SMRs) at Cottam in Nottinghamshire. The site is a 900-acre brownfield that previously housed a coal-fired power plant that operated until its decommissioning in 2019, with demolition and site clearance work underway. Existing grid infrastructure remains in place, reducing the cost and timeline for adding new generation capacity compared to greenfield development. The plant supplied power to the national grid for over 50 years before its closure.
