en.Wedoany.com Reported - JERA Co., Inc. has submitted the "Environmental Impact Assessment Method Document for the (Tentative Name) Construction Plan of New Units 1 to 3 at Sodegaura Thermal Power Station" to the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Governor of Chiba Prefecture, the Mayor of Sodegaura City, the Mayor of Ichihara City, and the Mayor of Kisarazu City. This submission is based on the requirements of the Environmental Impact Assessment Act and the Electricity Business Act, taking into account business conditions such as the electricity supply and demand outlook.

This plan is a facility renewal project involving the gradual decommissioning and removal of the existing Units 1 to 4 at Sodegaura Thermal Power Station, followed by the construction of new Units 1 to 3. The new units will adopt the latest high-efficiency combined cycle power generation system, with a total thermal efficiency of approximately 64% (based on lower heating value, LHV). This technology aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. According to assessments, the environmental impact of flue gas and thermal discharge after the plan's implementation is expected to be lower than the operational levels of the existing facilities.

This Environmental Impact Assessment Method Document was developed based on opinions received during the first-stage "Environmental Consideration Document" process, clarifying the matters to be addressed in the environmental assessment and their investigation, prediction, and evaluation methods. Starting July 17, the method document will be available for public inspection at relevant administrative agencies and published on JERA's official website. Additionally, explanatory meetings are scheduled for July 31 and August 1. Public comments on the content of the method document from an environmental protection perspective are welcome and can be submitted by mail to the designated address or via drop boxes set up at public inspection points.

JERA stated that it will continue to advance the subsequent environmental impact assessment procedures under the guidance of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and other relevant agencies, while fully incorporating input from the local community.
