en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry plan to fully adopt green steel (GX Steel) in public projects and collect necessary data through pilot projects. According to the plan, approximately 20 pilot construction projects will be launched nationwide in fiscal year 2026 (the first year), covering engineering fields such as buildings and bridges.
The first step of the pilot projects is to calculate the overall carbon footprint (CFP) of public works using green steel. Relevant departments will investigate the specific impact of green steel's carbon dioxide reduction value (GX value) on the overall carbon footprint of the projects. At the same time, construction costs and procurement information will be collected to determine a reasonable premium level for green steel compared to ordinary steel. Green steel and ordinary steel are equivalent in quality and function, but the manufacturing cost of green steel is generally higher.
Funding required for pilot construction and surveys will be covered by GX Economic Transition Bonds starting from fiscal year 2014, with related budgets formulated based on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's "Action Plan for Decarbonization of Civil Engineering Works." The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry plan to compile issues that need to be addressed for the full adoption of green steel, using data and insights obtained from the pilot projects starting from fiscal year 2018.
