en.Wedoany.com Reported - The National Port Administration of Uruguay (Administración Nacional de Puertos, ANP) has reported that dredging operations in the inner area of the Port of Montevideo have commenced, with the project being carried out by the Chinese company Shanghai Dredging Company (SDC).

The ANP website disclosed further project details, confirming that work has already begun in the Dársena II area and berth zones, executed by the dredger "Hangjun 4018". Uruguayan nationals account for 50% of the crew on this vessel, meeting the employment requirements stipulated in the contract.

The operation is planned in three phases, covering Dársena II, the inner harbor, and the Capurro Dársena area. The ANP stated that the project aims to restore and maintain the designated operational water depths in the inner area of the Port of Montevideo, complementing the ANP's public dredging maintenance in the access channel to ensure navigability and continuity of port operations.

The ANP also revealed that the dredger named "Alfredo Lavadie" (No. 9) has completed propeller replacement and other major repairs. The vessel, which had been out of service for nearly three years, resumed operations in Montevideo last week.

Additionally, the ANP reported on the maintenance progress of other dredgers: the "July 21" (D 11) dredger is undergoing scheduled comprehensive maintenance of its main engine and dredging engine, based on its operating hours requirements; the D-7 dredger is being prepared for its regular dry-dock inspection, with its last dry-docking occurring in 2019.
