Variety identification is an annual routine task aimed at assessing the health of crops intended for seed purposes, thereby ensuring the food security of the "Donetsk People's Republic." Farmers must select and sow the best varieties of the highest reproduction classes to harvest and prepare high-quality seeds for the 2027 harvest season. Experts evaluate the health of the crops and their conformity with the varieties declared in the documents. For patented varieties, farms must enter into a registered licensing agreement with the patent holder.

Olga Ivanchenko, head of the Mangush Interdistrict Department, stated that farmers in the region primarily sow seeds of pre-basic, first, and second reproduction classes of domestic breeding varieties. The department is advising farms on updating parent material and variety replacement. Popular winter wheat varieties include Timiryazevka 150, Alekseich, Yelanchik, Bezostaya 100, and Gubernator Dona, which were developed by the National Grain Center named after Lukyanenko and the Rostov Federal Agricultural Science Center.

In addition to wheat, farmers also sow triticale. This year, the highly demanded variety is "Tornado," developed by the North Donetsk State Agricultural Experiment Station, with a productivity potential exceeding 80.0 tons of green mass per hectare. Among pea varieties, Impulse and Nordman are more popular.

The Russian Agricultural Center noted that weather conditions in the Donbas region in 2026 were favorable, with sufficient heat and moisture, and the summer did not experience the high temperatures of the previous two years. Field harvesting has begun, and farmers have high expectations for the yield of seed crops, which will form a sufficient quantity of seeds for sowing in the 2027 harvest season.
