Boeing expects to deliver two new Air Force One jets by 2028, with project costs exceeding $5 billion

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Dimension News, Boeing stated on July 19, ahead of the Farnborough Airshow, that the two next-generation "Air Force One" presidential aircraft remain on track for delivery in 2028, but the project requires additional spending to advance. Steve Parker, CEO of Boeing Defense, Space & Security, confirmed to the media that the first aircraft is expected to begin testing next year.

The project was signed in 2018 under a fixed-price contract worth $3.9 billion, but costs have now climbed to over $5 billion, with delivery delayed by about four years from the original 2024 schedule. Parker stated that as wiring and structural assembly are completed and certification progresses, costs are expected to increase further. The two Boeing 747-8 aircraft will be equipped with advanced communications and defense systems, converted into highly specialized presidential planes.

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg previously stated that due to the constraints of the fixed-price contract, the project has caused Boeing losses of at least $2 billion. The U.S. Air Force updated the delivery schedule in December 2025, postponing the first aircraft delivery to mid-2028. Boeing stated that the company is steadily advancing the project.
