This Central Line Standard Gauge Railway, constructed by a Chinese enterprise, is a core backbone project of the East African Central Corridor and a landmark livelihood infrastructure project under the high-quality Belt and Road Initiative.

It is reported that the project connects Tabora and Kigoma in Tanzania, with complex geological conditions along the route. The scope of work includes all professional aspects such as subgrade, bridges, tracks, and stations. In her speech, Tanzanian President Hassan stated that once the section constructed by the Chinese enterprise is operational, it will significantly reduce regional passenger and freight transportation costs, drive the coordinated development of agriculture, fisheries, commerce, tourism, and other industries along the route, and inject strong momentum into the economic integration of the East African region.
