en.Wedoany.com Reported - Kier has commenced a fire safety renovation project at HMP Wandsworth, with a contract value of £59 million, commissioned by the Ministry of Justice. Located in the London Borough of Wandsworth, the prison is a Grade II-listed building and classified under Category B and C detention levels. The project aims to enhance the prison's fire safety standards and ensure its continued compliant operation, forming part of the Ministry of Justice's overall fire safety strategy.

Construction work is now underway. Kier stated that the project will also consider introducing its "Making Ground" initiative, which provides skills training and employment opportunities for released prisoners across the contractor's various projects. The company has previously delivered thousands of prison places for the Ministry of Justice and has implemented fire safety upgrades within the prison system.

In other Ministry of Justice projects, Kier is building HMP Glasgow, valued at a total of £1 billion, which is scheduled to replace HMP Barlinnie by 2028. John Bolton, Regional Director for Public Sector Projects at Kier Construction London and Thames Valley, stated that the company will draw on experience from other infrastructure upgrades within a real-world secure environment.

The company recently completed the Earl's Court Primary School and Manbre Wharf projects in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, with the latter being part of the ARC West London Refinery life sciences development. Additionally, Kier is building the Clarendon Special Educational Needs and Disabilities School for Richmond Council, as well as the Twickenham Riverside mixed-use redevelopment project.
