The 1.33 GW wind farm, located in Victoria, is the largest wind farm ever built in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere.

The wind farm, developed by Portuguese energy company TagEnergy, uses Vestas EnVentus V162-6.2 MW turbines. Currently, approximately 1.1 GW of the wind farm capacity is generating electricity, and upon full operation, it will supply about 9% of Victoria's electricity demand. Phase one (756 MW) is already operational, while phase two (577 MW) has completed installation and is gradually entering the commissioning phase.

The Golden Plains wind farm project was developed under a "pure merchant" model, meaning construction began without a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA), a relatively rare approach for renewable energy projects in Australia. The project has attracted investment from IKEA's investment arm, Ingka Investments, and has signed PPAs with Snowy Hydro, EnergyAustralia, and Equinix. Once fully operational, the project will provide significant support for Australia's renewable energy capacity and emission reduction targets, and it stands as a representative single-site development case in the global onshore wind sector.
