en.Wedoany.com Reported - Cagece (Ceará Water and Sewage Company) has signed an authorization agreement to begin construction of the Ceará Seawater Desalination Plant (Dessal do Ceará). With a design capacity of 1 cubic meter per second (capable of desalinating 1,000 liters of water per second), it will become the largest seawater desalination plant in Brazil upon completion.

The plant's expected output can meet the water supply needs of approximately 720,000 residents in the Fortaleza metropolitan area. After completing the initial phase, the plant is planned to become operational within the next five months. The initial phase includes pipeline industrialization, construction of water mains and drainage systems, and the construction of a new small stadium.

Águas de Fortaleza, a Special Purpose Company (SPE) composed of Marquise Infraestrutura, PB Construções S.A., and Abengoa Água S.A., will collaborate with Cagece on the construction. The Ceará State Environmental Superintendence (Semace) issued the Installation License (LI) in September 2025.

According to Renan Carvalho, Director of Marquise Infraestrutura, the company has adopted the most advanced seawater desalination solutions, aiming to deliver a project with technical excellence, rigorous operation, and long-lasting durability. In a statement, Carvalho emphasized that from a large-scale engineering perspective, the plant sets a new benchmark for Brazil's water infrastructure, with its high technical efficiency and industrial scale making it the largest drinking water seawater desalination plant in Brazil and Latin America.

Marquise is also involved in other projects, including the FLT (Transnodestina Logística Railway), CIPP (Pecém Industrial and Port Complex), and the Eixão das Águas water transfer project.
