en.Wedoany.com Reported - UK-based Squire & Partners has unveiled plans to redevelop the abandoned Stratford Sphere site with three towers as part of a mixed-use development comprising 2,100 homes.

The firm is advancing the Stratford Junction proposal for developer Hallmark, involving a triangular plot between Stratford Station and Stratford International station, and entered public consultation last week.

The two-hectare site has been vacant since serving as a coach park during the 2012 London Olympics. US entertainment company Madison Square Garden (MSG) had planned to build a scaled-down version of its Las Vegas Sphere here, but the plan was abandoned in 2024 after months of planning disputes.

The original design by Populous envisioned a 21,500-seat spherical entertainment venue fully clad in LED screens. The plan was rejected by London Mayor Sadiq Khan, prompting then-Secretary of State for Communities Michael Gove to intervene and reclaim decision-making authority. MSG ultimately canceled the project, citing that the planning dispute between Gove and Khan had turned it into a "political football."

Hallmark has acquired the site. The developer plans to build three towers ranging from 31 to 47 stories, housing 2,100 co-living residences and 1,600 hotel rooms.

The project will also include two performance venues (with capacities of 1,200 to 4,300 seats), 20,000 square meters of immersive entertainment space, and a 1,700-square-meter public plaza. A full planning application is expected this autumn, with construction slated to begin in 2028. Interim use proposals for the site have been submitted, including event pavilions, food trucks, flea markets, and sports and fitness spaces.
