en.Wedoany.com Reported - Gastops, a Canadian provider of intelligent condition monitoring and predictive maintenance solutions, announced at the Farnborough International Airshow that it has delivered its 20,000th MetalSCAN® oil debris monitoring sensor to the aerospace market. This milestone marks nearly three decades of innovation and collaboration with leading aerospace manufacturers.
Gastops began developing MetalSCAN® technology in the early 1990s, initially for integration into the Pratt & Whitney F119 engine powering the F-22 Raptor fighter jet. Since delivering its first production unit in 1997, the technology has become a condition monitoring solution for multiple advanced aerospace platforms worldwide. The 20,000th aerospace MetalSCAN® sensor was delivered in June 2026 for Pratt & Whitney's F135 engine program, which powers all variants of the F-35 Lightning II. Pratt & Whitney is a business unit of RTX.
Over the past 35 years, MetalSCAN® has been selected for numerous military and commercial aerospace programs and is now a bill of materials component for several leading propulsion platforms, including the Pratt & Whitney F119 engine for the F-22 Raptor, the Pratt & Whitney F135 engine and lift fan system for the F-35 Lightning II, the Eurojet EJ200 engine for the Eurofighter Typhoon, and the Pratt & Whitney GTF™ engine family.
MetalSCAN® technology enables operators to detect and monitor metallic wear debris in lubrication systems, providing critical insights into equipment health and supporting condition-based maintenance strategies. This helps maintenance teams make informed decisions, improving readiness rates, reducing unnecessary inspections, and optimizing lifecycle costs. Daniel Obedi, Vice President of Aerospace Platforms at Gastops, stated that for over 35 years, their research, innovation, and collaboration with partners have advanced condition monitoring technology, enhancing the safety, performance, and availability of critical aerospace assets. While MetalSCAN remains a core solution, the company has also advanced complementary technologies such as ChipCHECK®, expanding the range of capabilities available to commercial and defense operators worldwide.
Although MetalSCAN® is widely recognized in aerospace applications, the technology is also deployed in marine, energy, and industrial markets. To date, Gastops has delivered over 50,000 MetalSCAN® sensors across all industries globally.
Gastops is a global leader in intelligent condition monitoring solutions, with products applied in aerospace, defense, energy, and industrial sectors. Through innovative online monitoring sensors, on-site analysis, complex modeling and simulation, world-class laboratory testing, engineering design, and MRO services, the company provides insights into the condition of critical equipment, operating continuously since 1979.
