en.Wedoany.com Reported - Austrian clean energy company novventos Clean Energy GmbH has launched the naca.boost vertical-axis wind turbine, designed for turbulent environments such as near-ground industrial sites, rooftops, and remote areas where traditional horizontal-axis turbines struggle to operate efficiently. After three years of intensive development and testing at the Neukirchen factory, the product aims to address the efficiency bottlenecks of conventional wind energy technology in the variable, non-directional airflow conditions of the ground layer.
Traditional horizontal-axis turbines are typically optimized for stable high-altitude winds far from the ground, making them ineffective in the turbulent and variable wind conditions of the ground layer, where most electricity demand is located. From its inception, novventos clearly recognized this blind spot. The team conducted hundreds of test cycles on the naca.boost rotor at the Neukirchen factory, continuously improving the aerodynamic profile. Near-ground deployment eliminates the underground cables, substations, and other infrastructure costs associated with traditional large-scale wind power, requiring no long-term land leases or extensive site preparation. The system can begin generating electricity within days of delivery.
The technological innovations of naca.boost include a hybrid lift-drag rotor design, with airfoil blades featuring a proprietary geometric profile that generates lift in addition to drag, allowing the rotor to extract more energy from the same airflow. The asymmetric geometry of the guide housing performs two aerodynamic functions simultaneously: shielding the returning blades to reduce braking effects, while converging and accelerating airflow on the windward side. Since wind energy is proportional to the cube of wind speed, even a modest increase in wind speed yields significant energy gains. This vertical-axis configuration accepts wind from any direction without mechanical adjustments, optimized specifically for variable low-level turbulent environments. Six 510 Wp photovoltaic panels are integrated into the housing, supplementing solar energy without increasing the footprint, forming a wind-solar hybrid energy system. The unit produces approximately 10 dB of noise at a distance of 10 meters, with an annual power generation capacity of up to 10 MWh.

Franz Humer, CEO and co-founder of novventos, stated that the company understood from the beginning that solving the challenge of near-ground wind energy required a fundamentally superior turbine, and naca.boost took three years of engineering work to build. But a better turbine alone is not enough; the real answer lies in wind and solar energy working together, and the naca.boost with integrated photovoltaic panels is proof of this concept.
