en.Wedoany.com Reported - Kite Magnetics has secured AUD 4.1 million in funding for a AUD 4.1 million commercialization project aimed at expanding its pilot production line, generating automotive-grade validation data, and delivering customer-ready prototypes of its patented Aeroperm™ motor core technology.

Electric motor drive systems account for approximately half of global electricity consumption, yet the magnetic materials inside motors have seen no fundamental improvement for decades. Kite Magnetics' Aeroperm is a nanocrystalline soft magnetic material designed to replace traditional electrical steel in motor stator cores, reducing energy loss and heat generation.
Kite Magnetics states that under specified operating conditions, Aeroperm can reduce stator core losses by up to 97% compared to traditional electrical steel. The company estimates that, depending on the vehicle platform and motor design, this technology could help electric vehicle manufacturers reduce battery and system costs by approximately AUD 1,140 per vehicle.
Dr. Richard Parsons, Founder and CEO, stated that this grant marks a significant milestone in the company's transition from R&D to commercial manufacturing. He noted that most improvements in electric vehicle range come from battery packs, software, or power electronics, whereas Aeroperm directly targets the more fundamental source of loss—the magnetic materials inside the motor.
Kite Magnetics says the commercialization project will advance Aeroperm from Technology Readiness Level 4 to Level 6, while strengthening its pilot production capabilities in Victoria. The funding also supports customer certification programs, as well as the development of quality, cybersecurity, and intellectual property systems required by global customers. The company is simultaneously preparing a AUD 22 million Series A funding round to scale manufacturing and complete customer certification.
Spun out from Monash University in 2021, Kite Magnetics has progressed from laboratory research to pilot production. The company is supplying samples and paid prototypes to over 20 global organizations, including original equipment manufacturers, Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers, and e-mobility partners. It is backed by investors including SQM Lithium Ventures, Investible, and Innovation Victoria.
