Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced on the 23rd that it has signed a one-year supply contract for AI server MLCCs with a major global customer, with a contract value of approximately 300 billion won, covering the period from January 1 to December 31, 2027. Under the contract, Samsung Electro-Mechanics will supply high-performance MLCCs for AI servers and data center systems to the customer. The company stated that winning this contract is a recognition of its MLCC design technology, reliability under high-temperature and high-voltage conditions, and mass production capabilities.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics is expanding its long-term supply scale, focusing on components for AI servers. In May of this year, the company signed a silicon capacitor supply contract worth approximately 1.5 trillion won with a global customer; in June, it signed another AI server MLCC supply contract worth about 450 billion won with a global tech giant. Industry insiders note that such large-scale long-term MLCC supply contracts are relatively rare. Previously, MLCCs, as one of the general passive components, did not receive particular attention in terms of importance. However, with the increasing power consumption of AI servers, they have become core components determining the performance and stability of AI infrastructure.
The number of MLCCs used in AI servers can be up to 10 times that of general servers. On a server rack basis, up to 600,000 units can be installed, requiring ultra-miniaturization, ultra-high capacitance characteristics, tolerance to high temperatures and high voltages, and stringent reliability standards such as high bending strength. Currently, Samsung Electro-Mechanics holds a market share of over 40% in the AI server MLCC market and is negotiating additional long-term supply contracts with multiple global customers. Going forward, the company plans to focus on AI server MLCCs to secure a stable demand base and strengthen its business structure centered on high-value-added products.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics CEO Jang Deok-hyun stated that this contract is a recognition of Samsung Electro-Mechanics' MLCC technology as a core component of AI infrastructure. Based on customer trust, the company will develop next-generation cutting-edge products, build a stable supply system, and lead the AI component market.
