en.Wedoany.com Reported - Energy and marine consultancy ABL has been awarded a contract by Santos' Oil Search (PNG) to provide marine engineering warranty survey services for Papua New Guinea's first offshore floating storage and offloading unit (FSO). This project, the country's first offshore floating facility, will be deployed at the Kumul Marine Terminal as part of the Kutubu Pipeline System.

The FSO will provide storage and offloading services for crude oil and condensate produced from multiple oil fields, with associated gas continuing to be supplied to the PNG LNG project. Under the contract, ABL will oversee marine operations, covering pipeline loading in India and Indonesia, flexible riser loading in the UK, and offshore installation activities in Papua New Guinea. Specific tasks also include approval of pipeline laying, pipeline end manifold installation, FSO mooring installation, connection operations, and flexible riser pull-in.

ABL's Australian business unit will lead the project, supported by its offices in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and the UK. Sujith Mathew, Engineering Manager at ABL Australia, stated: "This is a landmark project for Papua New Guinea, and we are proud to provide support. We will leverage decades of expertise to ensure the safe transport and installation of the FSO mooring, pipelines, and other critical subsea infrastructure."Tim Field Dodgson, Chief Marine Engineer at ABL Australia, noted that high-value or complex offshore operations require appropriate risk mitigation measures, with work expected to continue until 2028.
