en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 31, the State Council executive meeting approved the construction of a total of 8 nuclear power units, including Phase II of Zhejiang Jinqimen Nuclear Power, Phase III of Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power, Phase I of Liaoning Zhuanghe Nuclear Power, and Phase I of Shandong Laiyang Nuclear Power. The meeting noted that nuclear power units should be built and operated in accordance with the highest global safety standards, with strengthened safety supervision across the entire chain and all areas, to ensure that nuclear safety is guaranteed without any margin for error.

It is reported that the 6 units of Phase II of Zhejiang Jinqimen Nuclear Power, Phase III of Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power, and Phase I of Liaoning Zhuanghe Nuclear Power all adopt Hualong One nuclear power technology. Among them, Phase II of Zhejiang Jinqimen Nuclear Power and Phase III of Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power have been designated as Hualong One 2.0 demonstration projects.

Hualong One is a million-kilowatt-class third-generation pressurized water reactor nuclear power technology with fully independent intellectual property rights, developed by CNNC and CGN on the basis of China's more than 40 years of experience in nuclear power R&D, design, manufacturing, construction, and operation. It is hailed as a "national calling card." Hualong One 2.0 is an advanced "Generation III+" pressurized water reactor nuclear power technology launched by incorporating operational feedback from Hualong One construction and operation, through independent innovation and overall coordination. It represents a major milestone achievement in China's nuclear power transition from "overall running in parallel" to "comprehensive parallel running with localized leadership."

Hualong One 2.0 adopts Chinese standards, independently developed software, and optimized active and passive safety systems, utilizing advanced technologies in intelligent control and modular construction. This significantly reduces engineering workload while comprehensively enhancing safety, advancement, and economic efficiency, giving it stronger overall competitiveness.

To date, 10 Hualong One units are in commercial operation both domestically and internationally, with another 37 units approved and under construction. The total number of units firmly ranks first among third-generation nuclear power globally, with its maturity verified through large-scale, batch construction and operation. A single Hualong One unit has an annual designed power generation capacity of nearly 10 billion kWh, sufficient to meet the annual production and living electricity needs of a medium-sized city with a population of over one million, equivalent to reducing standard coal consumption by more than 3 million tons and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by over 9 million tons annually. Meanwhile, the R&D and construction of Hualong One has driven nearly 6,000 upstream and downstream enterprises to form a complete industrial chain supply system, effectively leading the upgrading of China's manufacturing industry.

As more Hualong One units are successively completed and put into operation, they will further enhance the resilience and self-sufficiency of China's energy supply, better serve the construction of a new energy system, safeguard national energy security, and provide a smarter "China solution" for the global green and low-carbon energy transition.
