en.Wedoany.com Reported - Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE (DPRP), a subsidiary of the Dangote Group, has awarded a contract for the supply and installation supervision of gas turbine generator sets to India's Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL). The equipment will be installed at the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery and petrochemical complex located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone near Lagos, Nigeria.

In late July, BHEL stated that under the terms of the contract, the company will manufacture and deliver eight gas turbine generator sets while supervising their assembly and commissioning at the refinery site. The relevant equipment is scheduled to be produced at BHEL's plants in Hyderabad, Telangana, and Bengaluru, Karnataka. This marks the largest order for the supply and installation supervision of gas turbine generator sets the company has ever received.

Neither party has publicly disclosed the contract value or the specific execution timeline. Externally, it is believed that this order is likely linked to the capacity expansion plans for the Lekki complex recently confirmed by Dangote. Dangote previously stated its intention to expand the refining and petrochemical capacity of the complex by 2028.

The expansion plan was made public against the backdrop of a $2.5 billion private equity placement completed earlier this month. Dangote stated that the crude oil processing capacity at the Lekki complex will increase by an additional 750,000 barrels per day, reaching 1.4 million barrels per day; if completed, the complex is expected to become the world's largest single-site refinery. The expansion will also boost propylene production by 750,000 tonnes per year and add 400,000 tonnes per year of linear alkylbenzene capacity.

Additionally, the complex's existing polypropylene output is planned to increase by 900,000 tonnes per year, reaching 2.4 million tonnes per year, along with new base oil capacity. The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), which assisted in arranging the private placement, stated that the expansion will be implemented in two phases, with timelines of 2025–2028 and 2028–2030, respectively.
