en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (Autoridad Portuaria de la Bahía de Algeciras) held an ordinary meeting and approved the 2027 Business Plan (Plan de Empresa). The plan covers €677 million in investment, with an execution period from 2026 to 2030; it also includes €711 million in private investment, primarily directed to Total Terminal International Algeciras (TTI Algeciras) and the expansion of Dragados OffShore at Campamento.

The President of the Port Authority, Gerardo Landaluce, stated that improving road connectivity is a prerequisite for achieving the goals of the business plan and generating employment and wealth. He expressed satisfaction with the recent award of the contract for the second tube of the northern access tunnel, while emphasizing that the expansion of the N-340 road between Algeciras and Tarifa and the capacity improvement of the AP-7 motorway between San Roque and Algeciras remain priorities.

Landaluce also proposed accelerating the construction of the Algeciras-Saragossa rail motorway and providing greater electrical capacity and power to the region to support the feasibility of green hydrogen projects. According to the plan's projections, by 2030 the Port of Algeciras will exceed 6 million containers in container throughput for the first time, with total cargo throughput reaching 125 million tonnes per year.

Accessibility and sustainability

Among the landside investments directly managed by the Port Authority, road and rail accessibility actions total €124 million, with a focus on building the Botafuegos rail-port technical facility and the independent connection branch to the port, enabling freight traffic to be separated from passenger trains on the initial section.

In the area of sustainable development and energy projects, one euro out of every six invested is allocated to this field, mainly through the deployment of OPS (onshore power supply) systems at the docks of the Port of Algeciras and the Port of Tarifa, allowing vessels to connect directly to electricity during berthing, thereby avoiding emissions, noise, and vibrations.

The port-city segment will absorb more than 12% of investment over five years, allocated to the phased advancement of the Lago Marítimo project and the completion of the first phase of the Isla Verde fortress and the Punta Carnero fortress.

Other key actions include the construction of the new fish market building in Algeciras, the expansion of the border inspection post, the construction of a new car park and ancillary buildings adjacent to the process control centre, and the installation of new CSI scanners and their housing facilities. Port infrastructure projects account for €156 million in investment, with notable progress in the expansion of the Galera dock and its connection to Isla Verde.
