The agency has received 156 related complaint reports and, in a document posted on its website on July 31, noted that such failures "could result in a loss of vehicle directional control."
This preliminary evaluation covers approximately 1.2 million vehicles, including 2018-2020 Model 3 sedans and 2021-2023 Model Y SUVs. According to driver accounts, suspension failures typically occur without any prior warning, with some owners reporting unusual noises beforehand. The NHTSA stated that none of the reported incidents have resulted in injuries or fatalities.
As of the time of writing, Tesla has not responded to the investigation.
