UK's Heidelberg Materials Launches Carbon-Captured Near-Zero Cement evoZero

Concrete is the most widely used material on Earth after water, and cement, serving as the binder in concrete, generates 8% of global CO2 emissions during its production process, making decarbonization in the construction industry a significant challenge. Carbon capture technology reduces carbon emissions without altering the concrete mix itself, avoiding additional hurdles for specifiers and construction projects. The launch of evoZero is regarded as a major advancement in reducing carbon emissions in the infrastructure sector. The webinar's discussions cover: how carbon capture technology affects the CO2 content of near-zero cement; how to source this cement at the current stage, given that Norway's first such plant is already operational and the UK's first equivalent facility is under development in North Wales; and the role of third-party verification in carbon accounting, providing a reference for engineers and clients considering the large-scale use of net-zero carbon cement concrete.
