Norway's TetraSpar Floating Wind Demonstration Project Begins Decommissioning

en.Wedoany.com Reported - At the Marine Energy Test Centre (METCentre) site near Karmøy, Norway, the TetraSpar Demonstrator floating wind project has entered the decommissioning process, with the dynamic export cable disconnected and placed in wet storage to free up the site for the next demonstration project.

The decommissioning work is being carried out by Norwegian supply chain companies. Global Maritime is responsible for offshore operations, while Semco Maritime, in collaboration with recycling company Norscrap West, is conducting onshore dismantling at Hanøytangen.

The dynamic export cable was developed by UNITECH Energy Group, and Nordr Energi and Stiesdal completed its disconnection and wet storage operations. The cable was lowered to a depth of 210 meters for temporary storage, a process that did not require large offshore vessels or remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).

The TetraSpar Demonstrator, featuring a 3.6 MW Siemens Gamesa wind turbine mounted on Stiesdal Offshore's TetraSub floating foundation, was installed near Karmøy in 2021 to test Stiesdal's Tetra foundation concept.

Subsequent decommissioning work will also include the removal of remaining infrastructure, and the project stakeholders plan to use this effort to provide a reference operational approach for the decommissioning phase of floating offshore wind.
