On June 28, 2026, the submarine was launched at the Sevmash Shipyard in Severodvinsk, moving from the construction site into the water for outfitting, after which it will undergo trials and be delivered to the Russian Navy.

The "Ulyanovsk" has a displacement of 13,800 tons and is built under Project 885M (Yasen-M class). The lead ship of the same class, "Severodvinsk," entered service in 2014.

While docked at the shipyard, workers will install onboard systems, followed by state acceptance trials, with delivery scheduled for December 2027. Upon commissioning, the submarine will join the Northern Fleet.

Admiral Aleksandr Moiseyev, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, stated that in June of this year, the Sevmash Shipyard laid down the nuclear submarine "Murmansk," and that the "Ulyanovsk" is the sixth cruiser in the series, launched from the slipway on the day of its launch. This reflects systematic efforts to renew the fleet and enhance naval combat capability. The submarine will complete construction afloat and, after a series of trials, will enter service with the Red Banner Northern Fleet.

Currently, four Yasen-M class submarines—"Kazan," "Novosibirsk," "Krasnoyarsk," and "Arkhangelsk"—are in service alongside the "Severodvinsk." The "Ulyanovsk" is the sixth in the series and is nearing completion. In June, the shipyard also laid down the ninth submarine in the series, the "Murmansk."

The Yasen-M class is positioned as the Russian Navy's primary attack submarine, capable of conducting anti-submarine, anti-surface, land-attack, and intelligence-gathering missions. It is equipped with heavy torpedo tubes and vertical launch systems for firing Kalibr-series and P-800 Oniks cruise missiles.

The propulsion system of this class of submarines reduces operational noise, and they feature upgraded sonar and combat systems, with hull design focused on lowering acoustic signature.
