The plant is part of UFlex's global expansion strategy, aimed at strengthening its business presence in the Americas.
Jeevaraj Gopal Pillai, President of Flexible Packaging and New Product Development at UFlex, stated that steadily rising pet ownership in North and South America has driven demand growth for premium pet food and high-performance packaging solutions. The North American pet food packaging market was valued at over $12 billion in 2026 and is expected to continue growing; Latin America, propelled by urbanization, rising disposable income, and greater awareness of pet nutrition, is emerging as a high-potential market. This growth trajectory is fueling demand for durable, hygienic, and sustainable WPP bags capable of withstanding the rigors of transportation and storage while preserving product freshness.
The new plant is designed to international engineering, efficiency, and sustainability standards, equipped with European machinery and operating through clean, low-noise, zero-emission processes in line with UFlex's global ESG commitments. The facility features in-house recycling units and zero solid waste discharge systems to maximize material recovery, minimize waste generation, and promote responsible disposal. With an annual production capacity of 80 million WPP bags, the plant meets packaging solution demands across the Americas.
The WPP bags produced at this facility offer higher strength and incorporate anti-mite laser perforation technology, allowing air to escape while preventing mite intrusion; they also feature precision hot-air sealing technology adaptable to various bag types and sizes, reportedly ensuring durability and product safety. The plant houses an integrated conversion workshop using water-based inks, operating at speeds of up to 300 meters per minute, and is equipped with integrated quality and environmental control laboratories to safeguard consistent product quality and environmental compliance. Additionally, the facility produces WPP fabric used in manufacturing woven polypropylene bags.
Pillai noted that the commissioning of the Mexico WPP plant is a strategic step in expanding UFlex's global manufacturing network and strengthening its footprint in the Americas. Leveraging this base, UFlex will be able to deliver innovative, high-quality packaging solutions closer to customers, shorten turnaround times, and support the rapidly growing pet food industry's evolving sustainability and performance requirements in the region.
