en.Wedoany.com Reported - Spanish renewable energy developer Zelestra has signed a new 140 MW power purchase agreement with Tesla, under which Tesla will purchase the entire electricity output of the Lumen Farm solar project developed by Zelestra in northeastern Texas. Zelestra is expanding its partnerships in the United States through power purchase agreements, and this agreement extends the collaboration between the two companies from Spain to the U.S.

The Lumen Farm solar project is expected to enter the construction phase in 2027 and achieve full operation in 2029. Zelestra stated that the 140 MW of clean electricity injected into the Texas grid is designed to help offset Tesla's growing local infrastructure demand. Such power purchase agreements typically do not directly supply electricity to the contracting company, but they increase the supply of renewable energy in the grid.

Tesla currently operates five separate complexes in Texas, with on-site AI supercomputing training capacity of 260 MW, including its automotive factory and global headquarters in Austin, its battery Megafactory in Houston, and a lithium hydroxide refinery in Robstown. A robotics factory and semiconductor manufacturing facility are under construction at the Austin campus. Tesla outlined in its second-quarter earnings charts plans to expand its Texas operations to over 400 MW in order to triple its AI infrastructure in the state.

This latest agreement is a further extension of the 57 MW power purchase agreement signed between the two parties in 2024 in the Castilla-La Mancha region of Spain. As a Spanish developer and operator, Zelestra had previously signed power purchase agreements with Tesla for the Brazatortas I, II, and IV solar plants, and aims to replicate its development standards in its U.S. operations.

Phil North, CEO of Zelestra U.S., stated that the company is capable of providing customized solutions to clients across multiple regions and is pleased to extend the collaboration to the United States. He said the company's goal is to deliver the project and bring the new solar plant into operation as soon as possible to support Tesla's growing energy needs in Texas.

Additionally, in June of this year, Zelestra also announced a power purchase agreement with Meta involving the 180 MW Palmera Solar Plant in Freestone County, Texas, to support Meta in adding clean generation capacity to the grid.
