en.Wedoany.com Reported - Greek dry bulk owner Diana Shipping has signed a new charter with NYK, raising the daily rate for the Capesize vessel "Florida" by 18% to $30,500.

The 2022-built vessel, with a deadweight tonnage of 182,063 tons, has secured a new charter at a daily rate of $30,500, minus a 5% commission; the charter period is 32 to 35.5 months, expected to commence in the second quarter of 2027. Over the minimum charter period, this agreement will generate approximately $29.28 million in gross revenue.

The vessel is currently under a charter with Bunge at a daily rate of $25,900, also minus a 5% commission. Diana Shipping acquired this Japanese resale newbuilding for approximately $60.1 million in late 2021 and has chartered it to Bunge since March 2022 for a period of 58 to 62 months.

This latest deal is the most recent in a series of more favorable charters secured by Diana Shipping under the leadership of Semiramis Paliou. Last month, the company secured a 65% rate increase for the 2012-built Newcastlemax vessel "Philadelphia," chartering it to Classic Maritime at $35,500 per day starting in August. The company has also recently secured better charters for the Panamax vessel "Ismene" and the Kamsarmax vessel "Medusa."

Diana Shipping currently operates a fleet of 36 bulk carriers with a total deadweight tonnage of approximately 4.1 million tons. Additionally, two methanol dual-fuel Kamsarmax newbuildings are scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2027 and the first half of 2028.

Apart from its chartering operations, Diana Shipping's acquisition of U.S.-listed Genco Shipping & Trading has yet to be finalized. Its previous cash offer of $24.80 per share expired on July 24, while a separate cash-plus-stock proposal remains on the table, implying a valuation of $27.34 per share for Genco. Genco's board continues to deliberate on the acquisition offer.
