Clariant Activates Two Additive R&D Laboratories in China

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Wedoany News, August 18 – Clariant, a Swiss specialty chemicals company, announced the official activation of two new R&D laboratories for its additives business, located at the Daya Bay production site in Huizhou, Guangdong, and the Clariant Integrated Campus in Shanghai. This activation marks an upgrade of Clariant's R&D capabilities in China from application development to comprehensive synthesis R&D.

The Daya Bay R&D laboratory is located within Clariant's Huizhou high-performance flame retardant plant, which commenced production in 2023 and completed the expansion of its second production line in November 2025, with a cumulative investment of CHF 100 million. The new laboratory focuses on the development of next-generation flame retardant products and is equipped with atmospheric and high-pressure synthesis reaction units, as well as analytical instruments including thermogravimetric analyzers, differential scanning calorimeters, X-ray fluorescence spectrometers, gas chromatographs, and ion chromatographs.

The Shanghai R&D laboratory is located within the Additives Technology Center at Clariant's Integrated Campus, focusing on the development of new high-performance additives, covering categories such as antioxidants, light stabilizers, and wax powders, with R&D capabilities including synthesis, analysis, and pilot-scale polymerization reaction units.

Both laboratories are staffed with dedicated R&D teams. Clariant stated that the new laboratories will serve end markets including electric mobility, electronics and electrical, artificial intelligence, packaging, and fibers. In November 2025, Clariant also announced the establishment of a joint venture with Fuhua Chemical to develop next-generation phosphorus-based flame retardants, and the second production line at the Cangzhou plant, a joint venture with Beijing Tiangang, commenced production in the same period.
