en.Wedoany.com Reported - Dimension News, August 18 – KPI Green Energy Limited announced that an additional 130 MW AC (195 MW DC) of solar capacity has been officially energised and commissioned at its 370 MW AC/677 MW DC wind-solar hybrid independent power producer (IPP) project in Bharuch, Gujarat. The project has been developed in phases since 2025, with this marking the latest tranche of capacity entering commercial operation.

The project is a core asset under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) signed between KPI Green Energy and Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL). It adopts a wind-solar hybrid technology route, with a planned total AC capacity of 370 MW and DC capacity of 677 MW. The hybrid design leverages the complementarity of wind and solar resources across different seasons and time periods, improving the utilisation efficiency of transmission lines and grid connection infrastructure.

This commissioning is the latest milestone in the project's phased development. Previously, 139.7 MW AC (194.7 MW DC) had already been commissioned in stages. With the addition of this 130 MW AC tranche, the project's cumulative commissioned capacity has reached 269.7 MW AC (389.7 MW DC), accounting for approximately 73% of the planned total AC capacity. The remaining approximately 100 MW AC capacity has yet to be commissioned and is expected to be completed in subsequent phases based on construction progress and grid connection conditions.

KPI Green Energy, which started as an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor, has accelerated its transition to an independent power producer in recent years. As of June 30, 2026, the company's overall IPP portfolio reached 2.57 GW, of which 0.97 GW was operational and 1.60 GW was under construction. The under-construction capacity includes, in addition to the remaining portion of the Bharuch project, solar, wind, and hybrid projects in Gujarat and other states. During the same period, the company held a strategic land reserve of 8,657 acres, supported by power evacuation capacity of 5.10 GW, providing grid access for the subsequent connection of under-construction capacity.

The phased commissioning model enables KPI Green Energy to gradually bring new capacity into the tariff settlement system under the PPA framework, smoothing cash inflows and reducing the instantaneous pressure of concentrated grid connection on grid dispatch. As the 1.60 GW of under-construction capacity gradually converts into operational capacity in the future, the company's predictable recurring revenue base from its IPP portfolio will continue to expand. Market attention in the next phase will focus on the commissioning timeline for the remaining approximately 100 MW AC capacity of the Bharuch project, as well as the grid connection progress of other projects within the 1.60 GW under construction.
