The solution employs M36 and M52 hydraulic tensioners specifically designed for the on-site conditions, paired with the Echometer ultrasonic measurement tool, and includes systematic training to ensure the reliability of sealed connections, production continuity, and operational safety of equipment.
The Daesan Complex is a major petrochemical facility where LG Chem produces LDPE, VCM, and POE. Critical high-pressure sealed connections at the site had long suffered from leakage problems, leading to unplanned shutdowns, increased safety hazards, and rising maintenance costs. Resolving this challenge required precise preload control and the adoption of reliable, advanced fastening solutions to achieve leak-free operation.
Addressing LG Chem's specific requirements, the Boltight engineering team designed two customized hydraulic tensioners in M36 and M52 specifications to apply preload with precision. The team also recommended the use of the Echometer ultrasonic measurement tool to enable efficient and accurate bolt load measurement. To ensure smooth implementation and long-term operational reliability, Boltight provided technical support including on-site training, work supervision, and equipment maintenance.



Boltight standard hydraulic tensioners (T-Series) can quickly, conveniently, and safely tighten large-diameter bolts to high-precision preload levels. Their surfaces feature high wear and corrosion resistance, while internal components compensate for connection misalignment. The series supports tool interconnection, which helps improve operational efficiency and ensures uniform pressurization of bolted connections, while also offering easy installation and removal, nitride-coated component surfaces, and outstanding durability.
The Echometer portable inspection device uses ultrasonic technology to measure fastener elongation, stress, and load, enabling fast and accurate inspection. The device is easy to operate, compact, and durable, requiring minimal operator training. It provides elongation, load, stress, and strain measurements, and features simple data logging and reporting capabilities.
To ensure the successful implementation of the tensioning solution, the Nord-Lock Group arranged for Boltight engineers to lead a five-hour systematic training session covering both theoretical instruction and hands-on practice. Operators first mastered preload principles and bolt tensioning mechanisms, followed by specialized training in on-site installation of hydraulic tensioners and pressure adjustment. Through practical exercises, trainees learned to identify and troubleshoot potential operational faults and mastered the verification methods of the Echometer ultrasonic measurement instrument for precise bolt load measurement. This training enabled the operations team to complete all tensioning tasks under the demanding conditions of offshore wind turbine lifting with standardized procedures, precise control capabilities, and comprehensive safety awareness.
This solution integrates customized tools, expert knowledge, and hands-on training into a cohesive package, supporting enhanced operational safety and maintenance efficiency at LG Chem's Daesan Complex.
