German SMW to Showcase Automatic Quick-Change Systems at AMB 2026 in Stuttgart
en.Wedoany.com Reported - SMW-Autoblok and SMW-electronics will highlight clamping systems, gripping systems, and inductive coupling systems designed to optimize tool-change times in metalworking at the Stuttgart International Metalworking Exhibition (AMB), held from September 15 to 19, 2026. These developments target both large enterprises with fully automated mass production and small and medium-sized businesses that are adjusting their production setups due to skilled labor shortages and competitive pressure.

In the rotating machining sector, SMW will present the power chuck KNCS-matic-2G for automatic jaw changing. This latest version of the power chuck is optimized for collaboration with robots, enabling industrial robots to automatically and quickly change chuck jaws via a simplified release mechanism, further reducing changeover times. The KNCS-matic-2G can be adapted to specific machining requirements through a wide range of accessories, including the digital workpiece stop e-sensing.
In the stationary clamping system segment, SMW will exhibit the long-stroke clamp SLX digit and its power clamping version SLX digit 230 compact. This series combines conventional hydraulics with digital functions. Thanks to an integrated displacement measuring system, the opening stroke can be infinitely adapted to each workpiece, and the jaws can be automatically and quickly changed by robots. For higher levels of manufacturing automation, SMW will also present the mechatronic versions SLX e-motion 520 and SLX e-motion 335 compact. Both products feature infinitely adjustable jaw positions and clamping forces and can be integrated into machine tool control systems via Profinet or EtherNet/IP, enabling unattended operation for entire production shifts.
In the inductive coupling system segment, SMW will demonstrate the latest generation C80 Giga system on site. This system enables contactless, real-time communication between actuators and sensors and the higher-level control system, with transmission rates selectable at 100 MBit/s (Fast Ethernet) or 1 GBit/s (Gigabit Ethernet, fully transparent), and can transmit signals wirelessly across an air gap of up to 3 millimeters. Information is transmitted without delay, making process control significantly more precise and improving process reliability and productivity. The C80 Giga also provides a power supply of up to 75 W at 24 V. Designed specifically for the automation of rotating and changing applications, its high transmission rate makes it suitable for complex camera applications.
