Finnish S-Transistors Secures €2.6 Million to Develop Quantum Motherboard
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Finnish deep-tech startup S-Transistors has announced the completion of a €2.6 million ($3 million) Pre-Seed funding round, led by Nordic venture capital firm Lifeline Ventures, with participation from angel investors. The funds will be used to build a pilot production line, a dedicated cryogenic laboratory, product prototype development, and team expansion. S-Transistors, spun off from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, is developing wafer-scale superconducting transistors designed to operate at millikelvin (mK) temperatures, aiming to address the physical wiring and thermal dissipation bottlenecks facing large-scale quantum computers.

Co-founded by CEO Dr. Heorhii Bohuslavskyi and CTO Dr. Andrey Generalov, S-Transistors targets the architectural scaling limits of superconducting qubit and silicon spin qubit QPUs. Current systems rely on individual coaxial cables extending from room-temperature electronics to quantum processors inside cryostats. When QPU scales to thousands of qubits, this configuration imposes severe thermal loads and physical space constraints.
Although traditional silicon CMOS transistors can operate at low temperatures, their power consumption generates excess thermal noise that degrades the coherence time of fragile qubits. S-Transistors' platform technology combines the switching capability of transistors with the near-zero resistance and low power consumption of superconductors, achieving near-zero power operation at millikelvin temperatures. Its core products include superconducting transistor integrated circuits and cryogenic signal multiplexers, and it is developing integrated QPU control solutions within cryostats.
The company's first commercial product is a wafer-scale cryogenic multiplexer based on superconducting transistors. This component is designed to plug directly into existing dilution refrigerators, reducing the number of required cables by routing multiple qubit control signals internally. S-Transistors plans to deliver this device to early partners within the first year. In terms of capital allocation, the company will focus on a pilot semiconductor production line, a dedicated in-house cryogenic laboratory, and cryogenic control prototype development.
The multiplexer is the initial building block toward a unified millikelvin "quantum motherboard," a concept envisioning a fully integrated classical processing plane operating adjacent to the QPU inside the cryostat.
