EDF and Trinasolar Sign UK 179.8MWh Energy Storage Optimization Agreement

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 28, EDF and Trinasolar International Solution Business Unit (ISBU) signed two long-term battery optimization agreements covering two grid-scale battery energy storage projects in the UK, with a combined power capacity of 89.9MW and a total energy storage capacity of 179.8MWh. Upon the agreements taking effect, EDF will be responsible for power trading and operational optimization of the two storage facilities through the Powershift platform.

The two agreements involve Ruby BESS and Chatterley BESS respectively. The Ruby project, located near Aberdeen, Scotland, has a capacity of 40MW/80MWh and is scheduled to commence operation in October 2026; the Chatterley project, located in England, has a capacity of 49.9MW/99.8MWh and is scheduled to enter commercial operation in March 2027. Both projects are configured with a two-hour storage duration.

Trinasolar ISBU has completed the acquisition of both projects. According to the corporate registration information of Chatterley Energy Storage Limited, Trina Solar UK Investments II Ltd became the controlling party holding more than 75% of shares and voting rights on June 20, 2025, with the former controller, Abbey Properties Cambridgeshire Limited, exiting on the same day. In April 2026, the project company also registered a security over related land assets in favor of Investec Bank PLC, which remains in effect.

EDF will trade and optimize the power markets in which the projects participate through Powershift. In its 2026 business data, EDF stated that it had added over 2500MW of grid-scale battery optimization agreements during the year, bringing the company's contracted battery capacity under management to over 5000MW.
